Iceland: Fire & Ice

Primal beauty, privileged access

Considering the moderate size of Iceland, the country packs a powerful punch with its otherworldly landscapes and epic natural forces that shape not only the appearance but also the daily life in this northern land. The remoteness and epic contrasts make it a bucket list destination for nearly all travellers, and the country’s inclusive laws and society only add to the appeal. From black-sand beaches, lunar landscapes and the forever smouldering geothermal life below the surface to vibrant communities formed in the rugged surroundings, Iceland is full of wonders that you can discover in eight extraordinary days.

Iceland at a Glance

On top of being one of the most beautiful countries, Iceland is also among the most LGBT-friendly (Equaldex rating 90/100), providing comprehensive legal rights and social inclusion. Not only are there plenty of LGBT festivities happening throughout the year, but the nightlife in Reykjavik is also thriving, with many bars and clubs staying open long after midnight. Being social in Iceland is easy – while Icelandic is the official language, most people speak English rather well. When it comes to weather and the best time to visit, it all depends on your travel goals, but know that the weather can be as fierce as the Icelandic landscape so dressing in warm, windproof, and rainproof layers is key. Winters are relatively mild, and the days are short, but it’s the best time to visit to see the northern lights. Summer is the peak travel season – the weather is warmer but still on the cool side.
