Drama Club – quality goods for the local cosmopolitan Stories > Shopping > Drama Club – quality goods for the local cosmopolitan Nacho LopezDrama Club is a modern general store in Brooklyn for the local cosmopolitan, showcasing a closely edited selection of globally-sourced men’s and women’s clothing, jewellery, footwear, accessories and home goods. Mr Hudson speaks to owner Jack Sachs – a retail and fashion veteran previously at Barneys New York, OAK, and Bird – about the brand he created and his passion for bringing compelling stories to life. We plan your perfect escapeYou earned your vacation. Take the stress and uncertainty out of planning it by letting us provide travel expertise and up-to-date destination intel from local insiders. Plan my trip Tell us about your brand In early 2017 Drama Club opened its parkside door to the world in Brooklyn and as a boutique online. We like to think of ourselves as a modern general store for the local cosmopolitan. Our aim is to showcase an edited selection of globally-sourced men’s and women’s clothing, jewellery, footwear, lifestyle and home goods. We are thrilled to be independently owned and located in a sunlit storefront directly across from McGolrick Park in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The store’s interior boasts gallery-white walls and custom-made wood and marble furniture. Distinctive German and British lighting fixtures reach from the original tin ceilings toward the bold, black and grey graphic-glazed ceramic tile floor. What does you brand stand for?All featured lines boast a reputation for integrity of design and quality of manufacturing as synonymous to their individual brands. We like to say you may or may not know these designers- but if or once you do become acquainted, you’ll note their careful production and aesthetic merit are essential to their identity. Integrity before the trend, always. What makes your brand special? With a passion for the stories behind the goods and a focus on connecting with its curious clientele, Drama Club distinguishes itself among competitors through its thoughtful, dutiful, and graceful service of both product and customer. Why does the gay community love your brand? Many of our goods are available in Brooklyn or New York city only at our store. We’ve had the honour of noticing that our assembly of sophisticated and unpretentious global goods tend to trigger our favourite demographic – the discerning gay crowd. Maybe that’s because I’m proud to be a part of that community. Maybe that’s because hardworking and hard loving folks take comfort as we do in the company of beautiful and well-made goods. It’s hard to say what about being gay has directly to do with the finer things, but we know when we get any recognition from our LGBT community, it means the world. It’s why we were thrilled in our first year that Out Magazine listed us as one of America’s ‘Best New Stores for Menswear.’ It’s why we’re honoured to be featured by Mr Hudson. What is your best-selling product? We’re passionate about the tactile as much as the visual and are happy to elicit a strong response from folks flipping through the racks. We do especially well with our incredibly soft and rugged hemp-based clothing from West Coast designed-and-built sustainable brand Jungmaven. In contrast, we notice our customers also tend to love what we call ‘gentleman’s casual clothing’ made by British stalwart Sunspel. To round out any look, the iconic Max Bill collection of German-made watches by Junghans are likely to be our most coveted products. Jack Sachs Drama Club | Photo: Daniel SchwartzWhat is your story?I built my career on a passion for customer service and product alike. Having moved to New York from Wisconsin as an actor and filmmaker, I have always sought to bring compelling stories to life. With over 15 years in the retail and fashion business at Barneys New York, OAK, and Bird, honing my skills and standards in luxury service and the business of finer things, I was thrilled to fulfil a lifelong dream of opening and operating a new and unique retail experience. In creating Drama Club, I hoped to build a new forum to keep telling stories and connecting folks to the extraordinary product of the world’s best makers of fashion and lifestyle goods.
